How to Ask for Video Testimonials | Creating Case Stories that WORK

Before we get into this blog, here’s a reminder that when we say Video Testimonials, we mean VIDEO CASE STORIES.

Why?

You can discover why right here.

Now that we have that settled, let’s get to the real topic:

The Do’s and Don’ts of The Art of Asking for Video Testimonials

First of all, ALWAYS BE ASKING.

Doing this is important because some people will immediately say yes, but some people take time to say yes.

So you have to always follow up, and maybe they might say YES.

FOLLOW UP. FOLLOW UP. FOLLOW UP.

Our team constantly follows up with our clients.

Sometimes, we even follow up 5 to 6 times until we get them to say yes to having an interview.

And they take forever to say yes for many reasons.

One of them is that they GET SCARED to be in the spotlight.

That is why…

YOU HAVE TO EXPLAIN THE CUSTOMER INTERVIEW PROCESS

They need to understand that the process is extremely easy.

Your customers are nervous about what to say, and they fear saying all the wrong things about your business.

Giving them that assurance that everything will be okay, and that they will have guidance will make the difference that leads to them agreeing to a video testimonial interview.

On top of that, we would suggest introducing your customers to the person who will be interviewing them.

Help them build a rapport with their interviewer so that they in turn will be comfortable in the interview process.

INTRODUCE THEM TO VARIOUS INTERVIEW OPTIONS

Again, we want them to be as comfortable as possible.

And there are different ways for you to give them that comfort.

In our process, we often tell them:

  • They don’t really have to be on video
  • We can keep them anonymous

The next one is the key part:

ASK THEM FOR THEIR STORY

We’re done explaining to you the difference between a testimonial and a story.

In this process, you would want to ASK THEM FOR THEIR STORY.

“Would you mind telling your story to us?”

People are great at talking about themselves and their stories.

It doesn’t have to be long. It could take only up to 10 minutes.

But a lot of times, because of how much they love telling their stories, it takes WAY MORE THAN THAT.

This whole process seems simple, but trust us when we say that it takes time to master.

So keep practicing and keep asking.

You’re going to nail it.
